Listed in order of capacity: Luzhniki Stadium (Moscow, 81,000), Krestovsky Stadium (Saint Petersburg, 68,134), Fisht Olympic Stadium (Sochi, 47,659), Volgograd Arena (Volgograd, 45,568), Kazan Arena (Kazan, 45,379), Otkrytiye Arena (Moscow, 45,360), Mordovia Arena (Saransk, 45,015), Rostov Arena (Rostov-on-Don, 45,000), Cosmos Arena (Samara, 44,918), Nizhny Novgorod Stadium (Nizhny Novgorod, 44,899), Central Stadium (Yekaterinburg, 35,000), and Kaliningrad Stadium (Kaliningrad, 35,000).

The World Cup tournament has been played for over 80 years, but has only been won by 8 teams (Argentina, Brazil, England, France, Germany, Italy, Spain & Uruguay). All of the greatest soccer players in history have played in the World Cup, and a select few of those have been awarded the Golden Ball as best player on the winning squad, including: Zinedine Zidane, Oliver Kahn, Ronaldo, Diego Maradona, Paolo Rossi, Pele, Bobby Charlton & Giuseppe Meazza. The Golden Boot is an award for the top goal scorer in the World Cup and has been earned by soccer greats like: Miroslav Klose, Ronaldo and Gerd Muller. Brazils Ronaldo is the all-time leading goal scorer in World Cup history with 15 goals.

The World Cup is the most watched sporting event in the world, with over a billion football (soccer) fans following their team. Played every four years, it brings together the best players from 32 different countries to compete for the FIFA World Cup trophy. The teams each have to qualify to play in the World Cup, which occurs in the two years prior to the event. The World Cup tournament has 60+ matches and starts with a group stage in which two teams qualify from each of eight groups. Those sixteen teams then advance to the knockout stage, which includes a Round of 16, Quarterfinals, Semifinals and World Cup Final.

The 2018 tournament is scheduled to be played in Russia. The World Cup will visit the Middle East for the first time when Qatar hosts in 2022.

The opening match of the 2018 World Cup in Russia will be played on Thursday, June 14th in Moscow. There will be 64 matches played. The World Cup final will be played on Sunday, July 15th at Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow.

There are 11 host cities and 12 stadiums in Russia for the 2018 World Cup. They are Kaliningrad, Kazan, Krasnodar, Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod, Rostov-on-Don, Saint Petersburg, Samara, Saransk, Sochi, Volgograd, Yaroslavl and Yekaterinburg. The largest host cities are Moscow and St. Petersburg with estimated populations of 12 million people and 4 million people respectively.

December 1, 2017 is the date set for the 2018 World Cup draw. The draw will establish the 4 teams included in each of the 8 groups. 32 teams qualify to play in the World Cup.
